Z Energy NZ’s Sharetank, launched as a world-first in October 2019, is now 5 years old. Sharetank is a virtual pre-paid tank of fuel sharable with up to 5 people. Customers use the Z app to find and buy at the lowest price at Z within 30 km.

Z Energy NZ today announced changes to its loyalty proposition taking effect on 1 November this year as Flybuys closes; 🔹The Pumped accumulating cents/litre discount offering will end on 31 October 2024 and stacking will cease on 30 September for Z. 🔹Stamps collected for coffee, LPG and car washes will expire on 31 October and new ways to be rewarded will launch on 1 November. 🔹Loyalty NZ's Flybuys can earned to 31 October and Flybuys will close this year. 🔹Air New Zealand Airpoints will be earned as normal until 31 October and will be available by scanning the Z App (with Airpoints number linked) from November.

Z Energy NZ has delayed the launch of it's new Z Rewards program originally scheduled for November. It will continue the current fuel discounting program Pumped until then. Worldline Debuts One-Tap Debit & Loyalty Solution in New Zealand
October 24, 2023
Worldline will launch a solution that links loyalty programs to debit cards to create a single-tap payment and loyalty transaction. It'll be available only on Worldline contactless digital debit cards, at merchants who've opted in and for customers who are members of that loyalty program and agree to share data. Worldline was Paymark and processes about 70% of New Zealand's payments.

Woolworths Group's Everyday Rewards loyalty program now has 9.8 million active members (used their card in the last 12 months) in Australia and added 770,000 new members in the last year. There's been a 9% increase in members accessing personalised boost offers and 137% increase in in paid membership to the Everyday Extras subscription (previously reported as 230,000 subscribers). The average Everyday Extra savings is $28 per months. Scan rates (% of transactions at Woolworths Supermarkets) are over 70% and tag rates (% of sales in Woolworths Supermarkets) ~60%. Their retail media network (Cartology - Part of the Woolworths Group) has experienced a revenue CAGR of 34% over the last 4 years. Cartology contributed to the Digital & Media, Rewards & Services, and HomeRun segments, which together had a combined EBIT of $161 million this year (73.3% increase YOY).

It now has 1.6 million active members (active = the card was used this year). Scan rates (% of transactions lined to loyalty) are 60%. Members using its boost promotions reach their $15 reward voucher 5 times faster than those that don't. Westpac's completed the integration of ShopBack into its banking app. Since December last year, Westpac customers have received more than $12 million in cashback. CBA distributed $10 million to its CommBank Rewards cashback customers in 2021. Westpac's app is now Australia's best banking app according to Forrester (a title Commonwealth Bank held for many years previously) and ShopBack is the largest cashback platform in the Asia-Pacific.

Visa and Mastercard Interchange Cuts Target $250m Fee Reduction

Interchange, paid by retailers and merchants on Visa and Mastercard transactions, is the funding source for credit card loyalty programs. The Commerce Commission has outlined new options for further reducing interchange (including an extreme option of cutting it to zero). This new regulation is targetting a cut of $250m in fees paid by merchants which is more aggressive than the regulator's last cuts in 2021 which targetted a $70m reduction. 2021's cuts saw all credit card loyalty programs (including all Air New Zealand Airpoints credit cards) severely cut the value earned by customers. Submissions on the Commission's consultation paper are due by 20th August.

Lower supermarket pricing for loyalty program members is a feature of Countdown Supermarkets / Woolworths February launch of Everyday Rewards in New Zealand and practically every supermarket loyalty program in the UK. The UK regulator will review the strategy to test whether it's fair that lower prices are available to only loyalty program members. Sydney fintech Waave, which delivers account-to-account payments or Pay By Bank, has been acquired by UK based Banked : . Waave raised Au $4.7 million in a seed round a year ago. In account-to-account transactions money is transferred directly between two bank accounts without using a Visa or Mastercard rails and Waave's is one of the first payment platforms that uses Open Banking for both businesses and consumers. Waave charges a flat fee per transaction, making it up to 80% cheaper than Visa or Mastercard. Waave already works with works with cashback platform ShopBack and retailers Harris Farm Markets, Temple & Webster, Baby Bunting and Princess Polly with other retailers implementing Waave including Oz Hair and Beauty, Mr Vitamins, PUSHAS and Chemist Warehouse.

Transurban Expands Fuel Discounts for Frequent Toll Users

Toll road operator Transurban has 6 million customers and about 800,000 are members of it's Linkt Rewards loyalty program. Customers who take 10 or more trips between April and June will earn an additional fuel discount (12 cents per litre) in addition to the current 4 centre per litre available at rewards partners Shell, Viva and Coles. Transurban will offer more incentives in future.

The Warehouse Group Loyalty Program Changes in 2024 Results

The Warehouse Group has gone from being a finalist in the Asia Pacific Loyalty Awards in January, to reporting loyalty program membership of 1.9 million in May (across the new MarketClub initiative and the established myNoelLeeming program) to not mentioning loyalty in any way in it's 2024 results this week. In prior updates, the Group had reported that MarketClub membership at 1 million members. Last week though, it did report 30,000 members of it's B2B BizRewards program in group company Warehouse Stationery. It calls BizRewards a channel and notes this under-performed as the target small and medium enterprises cut spending.

Tesco Launches AI Clubcard Challenges for Up to £50 Rewards

Tesco is rolling out an AI-driven initiative called Clubcard Challenges, offering loyalty members the opportunity to earn up to £50 in Clubcard points over a six-week period. The initiative is delivered in partnership with EagleAI a division of SaaS loyalty platform Eagle Eye. The challenges will vary for each participant and can range from ‘spend £20 on our Summer BBQ range over the next 6 weeks’ to ‘spend £10 on plant-based meals’. Super Retail Group Loyalty Members Drive 77% of Sales Growth

Super Retail Group's combined 11.5 million active loyalty program members (active = purchased in last 12 months) contributed 77% of group sales (up 4% from last year). In 2020 a combined 6.6 million members delivered 59% of sales. 🔹At Supercheap Auto, 4.7 million active loyalty members (membership up 500,000) contributed 69% (up 5%) of sales. 🔹At Rebel Sport, 3.9 million active loyalty members (membership up 4%) contributed 77% (up 4%) of sales. In the relaunched Rebel program, 84% of active members are earning points and 34% are redeeming them. For every $1 redeemed at Rebel, customers spend a further $11. 🔹At BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing, 2.5 million active loyalty members contibuted contributed 90% (up 1%) of sales. 🔹At Macpac Ltd. 800,000 active loyalty members (up 5%) contributed 76% (up 2%) of sales.
