Pure play cashback app Grapevine , now a year old, has 100,000 users and 100 Auckland restaurants on it's platform. The app last year was saving users 10% to 20% (https://lnkd.in/dXkdyKun) on eating out as an immediate discount at partner stores. Grapevine uses Envestnet | Yodlee to access customer data. Grapevine's founders, backed by Blackbird, are also developing SupaLoyal (https://lnkd.in/dUgEaWg6).

Myer Partners with BCG for Sales Boost and Loyalty Expansion

MYER has brought in Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in a company wide review seeking to accelerate sales, widen margins and ramp up its loyalty program. Myer may extend the Myer One rewards program to cover Premier Investments, LLC's brands Just Jeans, Portmans, Dotti, Jay Jays and Jacqui E if they're acquired. The loyalty program run by French department store Le Bon Marche is a possible model for Myer as part of the next stage of the Myer One loyalty program.

Gratifii Expands with Club Connect & Rapport Acquisitions

ASX listed loyalty provider Gratifii Limited has made two acquisitions. It's acquired loyalty and rewards platform provider Club Connect for Au$8 million which adds cross-sell opportunities to their 80 enterprise clients and access to all Australian Motoring Associations members (approximately 9 million). Club Connect had Au$49 million of revenue and underlying Ebitda of Au$1.6 m in 2024. Gratifii's also acquired New Zealand based Rapport for NZ$0.5 million (Au$0.46 million) which adds ~Au $4 million of revenue (and positive profit) together with two enterprise clients. The combined group now has annual revenue of Au$ 84 million.

Woolworths Loyalty Program Reaches 9.8M Members, Boosts Revenue

Woolworths Group's Everyday Rewards loyalty program now has 9.8 million active members (used their card in the last 12 months) in Australia and added 770,000 new members in the last year. There's been a 9% increase in members accessing personalised boost offers and 137% increase in in paid membership to the Everyday Extras subscription (previously reported as 230,000 subscribers). The average Everyday Extra savings is $28 per months. Scan rates (% of transactions at Woolworths Supermarkets) are over 70% and tag rates (% of sales in Woolworths Supermarkets) ~60%. Their retail media network (Cartology - Part of the Woolworths Group) has experienced a revenue CAGR of 34% over the last 4 years. Cartology contributed to the Digital & Media, Rewards & Services, and HomeRun segments, which together had a combined EBIT of $161 million this year (73.3% increase YOY).

It now has 1.6 million active members (active = the card was used this year). Scan rates (% of transactions lined to loyalty) are 60%. Members using its boost promotions reach their $15 reward voucher 5 times faster than those that don't. During the year, it added new partners in Accor (May) and group companies Petstock (July) and MILKRUN (November 2023).

Super Retail Group Loyalty Members Drive 77% of Sales Growth

Super Retail Group's combined 11.5 million active loyalty program members (active = purchased in last 12 months) contributed 77% of group sales (up 4% from last year). In 2020 a combined 6.6 million members delivered 59% of sales. 🔹At Supercheap Auto, 4.7 million active loyalty members (membership up 500,000) contributed 69% (up 5%) of sales. 🔹At Rebel Sport, 3.9 million active loyalty members (membership up 4%) contributed 77% (up 4%) of sales. In the relaunched Rebel program, 84% of active members are earning points and 34% are redeeming them. For every $1 redeemed at Rebel, customers spend a further $11. 🔹At BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing, 2.5 million active loyalty members contibuted contributed 90% (up 1%) of sales. 🔹At Macpac Ltd. 800,000 active loyalty members (up 5%) contributed 76% (up 2%) of sales.

Endeavour Group Launches pub+ Loyalty Program for 350 Pubs

Liquor and pubs giant Endeavour Group has launched the pub+ loyalty program for its network of 350 pubs. Endeavour aims to replicate the success of its liquor retailer Dan Murphy's MyDan's loyalty program which drives more visits and higher spending. MyDan’s has more than 5.4 million members and a scan rate of 82%. Early pub+ results showed members transacted between 2.2 and 3 times per visit. pub+ will also have a gaming component that can voluntarily limit spending and time spent at gaming machines in the pub+ venues.

Parent Endeavour Group (spun out of Woolworths Group in 2021) runs 266 Dan Murphy’s stores and 1,435 BWS liquor stores. Endeavour is now deploying the same loyalty strategy into its hotels business with the newly launched loyalty program Pub+ for customers of its 354 licensed venues.

Cashrewards (owned by ANZ) is buying shopping deals platform Little Birdie. Little Birdie was launched in 2021 with an Au$30 million investment from Commonwealth Bank but paused operations in May this year. Cashrewards has 2 million members and 202 staff and will add several Little Birdie employees. The short-term plan is to relaunch the Little Birdie website and app in time for November's Black Friday & Cyber Monday sales. The long-term goal is to deliver an integrated, seamless shopping journey in Cashrewards. Little Birdie was founded by Catch's founders. Catch was bought by Wesfarmers OneDigital in 2019 for $230 million. It lost $ 1 million in the last 6 months of 2023 and, while there's speculation Wesfarmers will sell it or close it, Catch appointed a senior executive from adidas to lead Catch last week.

Visa and Mastercard Interchange Cuts Target $250m Fee Reduction

Interchange, paid by retailers and merchants on Visa and Mastercard transactions, is the funding source for credit card loyalty programs. The Commerce Commission has outlined new options for further reducing interchange (including an extreme option of cutting it to zero). This new regulation is targetting a cut of $250m in fees paid by merchants which is more aggressive than the regulator's last cuts in 2021 which targetted a $70m reduction. 2021's cuts saw all credit card loyalty programs (including all Air New Zealand Airpoints credit cards) severely cut the value earned by customers. Submissions on the Commission's consultation paper are due by 20th August.

10 years ago Loyalty Managers in New Zealand had about 10 loyalty solution providers to choose from. They were generally outsourced and included the closed AA Smartfuel and the soon-to-close Flybuys. Today, almost all loyalty programs are insourced and Loyalty Managers have 127 potential providers to choose from (last year the number was 65). To make this complex selection process simple, we've just released the latest comprehensive and categorised map of all 127 loyalty solutions. Woolworths Group's equivalent business (Cartology - Part of the Woolworths Group ) accounts for about 8% of its earnings according to Jarden. Coles Group business Coles 360 makes about $250 million a year in revenue. Walmart has grown its Retail Media business at a 45% CAGR for the last 4 years with media expected to be 20% of its profit next year. It's getting margins of between 70% to 90%. Sainsbury's has grown its Retail Media Network by 15% annually for the last 4 years with a 52% margin in 2023.

Cora Group Acquires Kognitiv's Loyalty Platform and Air Miles Program

Loyalty platform provider Kognitiv Corporation has sold both its Enterprise Loyalty Platform and the Air Miles Middle East coalition program to CORA Group. Cora has named the acquired platform Carlson Marketing Solutions reflecting its genesis in first Carlson Marketing and then Aimia Inc before Kognitiv acquired it. The acquired platform serves 50 million members in 30 countries for banks, retailers and travel companies. 100 employees from Kognitiv in North America, APAC and EMEA will transition to Cora. Kognitiv will provide continuity of access to the platform for its customers. Cora bought loyalty fulfilment platform RewardOps in 2020 and loyalty platform Vanson Technology Services earlier this year. Commonwealth Bank today launched a travel booking service in its banking app powered by Hopper. It's integrated to both it's whole-of-bank loyalty program, Yello, and it's credit card loyalty program, Comm Awards. CommBank Awards members can use their points to pay for travel. CommBank Yello customers receive 10% back in travel credits on hotel bookings. The travel offering includes price predictions (recommending when to book), auto price drop ($50 in travel credits if the price of the recommended booking drops), best price guarantee (credits the difference if a lower price is found), price watch (tracks flight prices) and flex it (cancel for any reason and possibly receive 80% of the cost back).

Australian Red Cross Loyalty Program Grows to 130K Participants
